Family Farms is located in north-central Minnesota.
We
use a farming method known as
Sustainable Farming. A sustainable agriculture over the long term,
enhances environmental quality and the resource base on which
agriculture depends; provides for basic human food and fiber needs; is
economically viable; and enhances the quality of life for the farmers
and society as a whole.”
Fultz Family Farms practices sustainable agriculture. Multiple species
of livestock are raised on the farm including performance horses, meat
goats and poultry. Unlike conventional farming, which uses chemical
fertilizers and herbicides, Fultz Family Farm's in a way that is
friendly and sustaining to the ecosystem. Manure is composted and spread
back on the land. The livestock is raised naturally, without unnecessary
confinement. The use of antibiotics is limited to curative, not
preventative use. No animal by products are fed to the livestock
destined to slaughter.
The adult Boer meat goat can easily exceed 200lbs. They
are one of the few goats breeds that have been genetically selected for
early weight gain, carcass quality and muscling. By using a full or half
blood Boer goat buck in your dairy or Spanish doe herd you can increase
the weight gain of your kids by over 150%! Our Boer, Tennessee Myotonic
Meat goat crosses bring more in the sale ring too. The carcass quality
is so much improved by even half blood sires that the resulting kids
bring premium prices. Because they gain quicker, they get to market
quicker with less time in the feed lot.
Our meat goats are used for biological weed control. No herbicides are
used on our pastures. The goats are grazed alternately with our horses
in a managed intensive grazing system. No hormones or antibiotics are
used in our meat animals. The meat goats are fed our organic raised
Hulless Oat (Paul Oats) or commercially processed feed containing
NO medications or animal by products. Our meat goat herd is
allowed free range throughout the pasture during the growing season. We
raise our animals with care and respect in order to provide you with a
quality, flavorful and safe meat product.
Goats are naturally low in body fat, with only 51
calories per ounce. A four-ounce serving of roasted goat meat contains
only 85 mg of cholesterol. Currently, the demand in the US exceeds what
American farmer’s are able to produce.

LGD mothers. They stay with the herd of goats and protect them from all
preditors entering the field. Last year Mark lost several (over a
dozen) kids to coyotes, fox, wolves...since getting his livestock guard
dogs, he hasn't lost a one to preditors this year in a herd size of 500.
